PICNIC (People In Crisis
Need Immediate Care) is a 501c3 that operates together with the QuantumCare
mission and also, has its own projects which QuantumCare supports through
your donations. The name of the charity was derived from the Executive
Director’s expertise in chemistry as it relates to nutrition to
fight diseases. Barbara Hawkins continues to be a tireless champion
of assisting persons with diabetes and kidney disease. By organizing
events such as this year’s First Annual Kidney Kamp (Read the
Article) and offering classes in nutrition. The main objective of those
classes is to relieve people on special diets due to diabetes and kidney
disease in an effort to lesson the impact those illnesses have on the
quality of life. Barbara Hawkins, Executive Director of PICNIC, and
QuantumCare have been invited to organize a Kidney Kamp for the Chicago
area in 2006.
PICNIC is a strong foundation
of support for the American Diabetes Association, the National Kidney
Foundation, the Lupus Foundation and the Midsouth Transplant Foundation.
Together with QuantumCare, PICNIC participates in fundraising and public
awareness campaigns for these core organizations as well as sponsoring
our own events.
Currently, PICNIC is obtaining
the funding to initiate a Medical and Tutoring Program for Juvenile
Diabetics in the Public School System. The pilot project will be initiated
in Memphis, TN and presented nationally once it is evaluated for additional
