Christian Children’s Fund: 2005 Sky Siegfried Fund
Bringing health care to some of the poorest areas of the world is an enormous challenge. But the Siegfield family is helping the Christian Children’s Fund meet this challenge with their generous $500,000 matching gift. Every dollar we can raise will be matched to double the value of any gift we can send to the CCF to help meet their $1 million goal. Sierra Leone is just one project funded by the Sky Siegfried Fund. QuantumCare and PICNIC have chosen this project to support. For more information, go to:www.christianchildrensfund.org
Safe Water and Health Huts: Sierra Leone
In Sierra Leone, one of the most poverty-stricken areas in the world, health huts are providing critical health care and education for women and children. The Sky Siegfried Fund and Christian Children's Fund also brought clean water and sanitation to many communities. Twelve hand-pump wells were constructed and 50 existing water
sources were maintained in Sierra Leone last year. CCF-trained health motivators traveled to 33 communities and helped improve sanitary conditions and supervising the construction of 263 pit latrines.
In addition:
- 33 communities benefited from 24 new health huts and the renovation of nine buildings for use as health huts;
- 20 traditional birth attendants were trained to help with the delivery and post-natal care for mothers and babies;
- drug kits were distributed in 28 communities, impacting the lives of 30,640 patients – half of them under the age of five;
- 70 percent of children, under two years of age, in 33 communities were monitored for growth and development.
